One Pose, Two Weeks

In a random fit of madness, surprising because usually it’s a good fit, the Play School theme suddenly dropped unbidden into my head as I was contemplating this entry. I decided to go with that.

This entry should be sung to the tune of said theme.

There’s a studio there,

And an easel or two.

There are people with charcoals

And figures to draw.

Up the stairs,

Come inside

Don’t think about it too much. Not a wise course of action. Just move on quickly.

One of Brisbane’s best life models, Brett, will be sitting for us for the next two weeks. Here’s a chance to really get into a drawing! Whip out your paints maybe? Brett will take the same pose for both sessions giving an opportunity for more detailed or involved work. Perhaps try your hand at portraiture.

For those preferring shorter poses, there’s lots of room in our lovely, big studio to move around the model for differing viewpoints.

C’mon down. You and your coffee cup!

Price Check, Aisle Three..

The bad news? That after much gnashing of teeth & wringing of hands, Drawn From Life must raise the price of the Wednesday night life drawing sessions. Gasp! Horror! Over the past year, DFL has absorbed price rises in studio rental, drawing materials, models’ fees & artists’ provisions (tea & biscuits) but those wrung hands have been forced. No longer $15 for all you can draw buffet nights, regretfully it must now be $16 for that veritable feast of models and music.. A sad day for all. Hope to see you there Wednesday!

Drawn From Life is looking for a creative and confident person to teach life drawing for hens’ parties.
You need to be available to work weekends including occasional Friday nights.
Life drawing ability a must!
This job is offered on a casual basis.
Art Teachers and 3rd year Arts students are encouraged to apply.
Some prior teaching experience and a bold, cheerful personality essential!

There will be NO life drawing session this Wednesday, 11 August. We will return to our regular programming the following week, Wednesday 18 July. One of our number one hits, model Elizabeth, will be spinning some top tunes on that date so come along to a platter party that will hit all the right notes!

Drawn From Life has found a new friend to play with! We’re pleased to introduce Living Arts Retreats, a new friend who will be sharing studio space with DFL at Metro Arts.

Living Arts offer a number of Sunday Sessions comprising a wonderful blend of yoga and life drawing.

This special combination of yoga and life drawing serves to heighten awareness and unlock pathways to creativity. These sessions are a great way to experience life drawing.

Previous experience is not required!

Workshops are held in the regular DFL studio and easel hire is available for those interested. Parking is free on Sundays.

Limited numbers! Bookings Essential!

When: Sunday Sessions are held once a month. 3.00-6.00pm.

Drawn From Life and Salisbury Studios welcomes you to our house-warming at ‘The Old Bomb Factory!’

We’ve put on our best frocks, laid out the good china and invite you to experience this fantastic new art space with our introductory course – Figure Drawing @ The Bomb. This special offer commemorates the official opening of the Salisbury Studios.

Shake hands with the studio, meet the art teachers and get to know life drawing as the weeks progress. As you become acquainted with traditional life drawing techniques, the course will also have you on nodding terms with drawing materials and their useage.

Bring your coffee cups this time, tea and coffee available. You’ll have to supply your own biscuits though! Perhaps we can start a piggy bank and take requests for snacky preferences?!

Hello All,

You may notice, as you wander around our site, that there are glitches on some pages. Photos may not load properly, or not at all, text does not display correctly and we have had some issues with email not getting through. There is a reason and it is not that we don’t care! The Drawn From Life website is undergoing a makeover currently and some things that we change seem to have an odd effect in other areas of the site. Please forgive us as we walk around in our underwear with lipstick on our teeth, work is happening behind the scenes and we hope to back to our respectable best shortly!
